Walk days or walking holidays for groups.
Each walk lasts approx 3 hours and we cover approx 10km. All of these walks are easy medium graded and are obviously on the Sierra espuña terrain.
We meet at La Mariposa at 9.45am on the day of the walk.
Sometimes we walk from La Mariposa and sometimes we have a short drive from La Mariposa to the walk starting point.
Please do not ask us where we are walking prior to the day as sometimes we do not make up our minds on the route until the day of the walk, this is because we have to take in to consideration the abilities of the walkers in general, the weather and the size of the group. We have to take safety into account at all times.
The walk includes an after walk 4 course meal at around 1.30pm (including wine and beer on the table) at ´La Mariposa´ The walk is free (if you book the meal) and the meal is 12 euros....including wine and beer ...how do we do it?? (please tip the staff generously!!!)
WE DO NOT DO FAST FOOD, IF YOU ARE EXPECTING A 4 COURSE MEAL IN AN HOUR MAY I RESPECTFULLY SUGGEST THAT YOU GO TO McDONALDS!!
In Spain people take a leisurely lunch....
IF YOU HAVE AN SPECIAL DIETARY REQUIREMENTS I.E. VEGETARIAN, VEGAN OR GLUTEN FREE please INFORM US AT THE TIME OF BOOKING OTHERWISE YOUR LUNCH MAY BE LIMITED.
Wine, water and beer is included on the table. Whatever is on the table is included, anything else must be paid for.

Pequeños Recorridos (PR) WALKS
PRs are normally possible to do in a day, ranging from a couple of hours to more challenging 7-8 hour walks. Many of these routes are PRs in their entirety or else coincide with them along certain sections. PRs are generally marked in yellow and white, as below-
Our twice monthly EASY MEDIUM GRADE walks, 2ND AND 4TH MONDAY OF EACH MONTH,
All EASY MEDIUM GRADE walks are on the 2nd and 4th MONDAY of every month Unless otherwise stated (see below), we walk between late September and late May, each walk is graded as EASY MEDIUM and thiese grades take into consideration that the Sierra Espuña is a mountain range and grades easy medium for a mountain walk... ,and last approximately 3 to 3 and a half hours and around 10km in length with stops for views, drinks and comfort breaks along the way, THERE ARE NO PUBLIC TOILETS WHERE WE WALK!! Also please be sure that you understand that we are walking in the mountains and there will be some hills to walk up as well as down (you would be surprised the amount of walkers that turn up for a walk and complain about the fact that these mountains are hilly !!) At the end of the walk there is a walkers 4 course meal with some wine, beer and water included.
Please wear sensible shoes or boots for walking on tracks and tarils (the better the grip the better!
;-) The cost is....12€ per person if you have the walk and meal, or 12€ per person for just the walk or 12€ per person for just the meal. In other words everyone pays 12€ whether they walk or eat but a maximum of 12€ per person.

Gran Recorridos (GR) WALKS
Recently the marking of footpaths and walking trails has improved immensely on the Sierra espuña. These range from local paths to Gran Recorridos (GR), a Europe-wide network of long-distance walking trails. Some of the local routes have been classified officially as Pequeños Recorridos (PR) or “short routes”. Three GRs pass through the Sierra Espuña, many of our hikes and walks use sections of the trails. All of these marked routes tend to be easyish walking however we also have our own routes which are not marked routes (PR OR GR)
From Alhama de Murcia follow the signs for Mula/Pliego, after aprox 7 km there is a turning on the left for El berro, ignore this turn and stay on the Mula road until you reach the hotel, we now meet at Hotel la Mariposa on every walk day at 10am.

La Mariposa Day Walk – Morrón de Alhama Cairns
Date – Monday 20th March (officially the 1st day of Spring)
Time – Meet at La Mariposa by 9:30
Length of Walk – Approx. 6 Hours, Approx 18.5 Kilometres
Cost – 16€, Including the Walk & a Packed Lunch consisting of 1x Baguette (York Ham, Serrano Ham, Cheese, Salad, Tuna, Chorizo or any Combination of the above), 1x Bag of Crisps, 2x Fruit, 1x Piece of Cake. No Fluids are Included. All proceeds are going into the pot for Tom & Nina to do the Inca Trail at the end of 2017, which we’ll be doing for CHARITY.
Description of the Walk – From La Mariposa, we will take the cars to La Perdiz, where we will arrive at approx. 10 AM. We will take a short stroll to the Leiva Valley, past the Dinosaurs footprint & the Rope Suspension Bridge. We then ascend the Leiva Valley up the Wide Track for approx an hour, before we turn off on our left and take a shortcut, past an old ice house to Fuente Blanca (White Spring) where we will stop and admire the view of the Prairie and the semi abandoned village of Fuente Blanca - which was, in it’s day, an old mining village - that looks like it should be on a postcard for Patagonia. Turning left again on this track and passing the old watch tower, we walk through a Tolkienesque Rock Garden, the path here is unmarked and we follow some cairns left by a very helpful someone at some point in the past. After the Rock Garden and a short jump up to the top of the ridge, we find our path again and continue, wending our way across the ridges until, after a short hop (you will need both hands here) up to the top of the ridge, and, two minutes later we find ourselves at the lunch – and halfway! – point at the top of the Morrón de Alhama/Morrón Chico. Hopefully it will be a clear day, when I went to check the route out, the only side that was clear was the West, which I had approached from, the North, East & South were all covered in a thick mist. After we’ve eaten, we can sign our names in the Shrine at the top of the summit, before making our descent back down to the path and heading right now, we descend Las Escalerillas, (the little stairs) a zig zagging trail, until the path straightens out again, the trail on this part of the mountain looks and feels a little bit Jurassic. We continue, until we see the cairns parking our descent point. From here, we descend the Senda del Piojo (The path of the flea), zigzagging all the way down for a few kilometres until we meet the road, whereupon it’s a short walk back to La Perdiz and the cars. We can stop here for a well deserved drink before making our way back to La Mariposa.
What you’ll need to bring – Water (about 2 litres per person), Comfortable Walking Shoes or Boots with a thick sole and good walking socks, Walking Pole (recommended), Camera and/or Binoculars (I saw half a dozen eagles and a herd of 2 dozen mouflon, as well as some pretty pink orchids (at least, I think they were orchids)), a small torch just in case the summit is misty, A small rucksack or backpack to keep this and your lunch in & some change to buy a coffee, beer, G&T (delete as appropriate) at La Perdiz upon finishing. Reminder, because of the half an hour drive to La Perdiz, we won’t be offering pickup or dropoff on this date, arrival & Departure from La Perdiz will be under our own steam in our own cars (although offering assistance and carpooling would be appreciated for the planet), so please make sure you have enough fuel too!
Deals – We’ll be offering a room deal at La Mariposa for all walking couples, 35€ discounted from 59€ for B&B on the night of the 20th. Be quick though, we only have 7 rooms!
Dinner will cost 18€ per person for 4 courses.
If anybody would like English Breakfast on the morning of the walk to set you up for the day, we’ll be serving them from 8 o’clock and they cost 5€ each.
To Book – Come & Speak with Tom, we’ll need your name, number of people & contact details. And we’ll also need to know - what fillings you’d like in your baguettes for the packed lunch, if you’d like an English Breakfast and if you’d like to book a room for the night.
